Bent Brick Growler Party 

What: Get out your growlers and fill them with your favorite wine find at Bent Brick’s upcoming Growler Party. Sample nine different wines from around the region (think Boedecker Cellars, Love and Squalor, Helioterra, and more) alongside bar bites from Chef/Owner Scott Dolich.
When: Thursday, August 8 from 6 to 10 pm.
Where: Bent Brick, 1639 NW Marshall St.

Concours de Tartes Aux Fruits

What: Portland’s hottest pastry chefs will show off their tart-making prowess in this annual competition. Three celebrity judges will declare which chef reigns supreme, but as spectators are invited to sample the tarts, you’ll feel like the true winner.
When: Thursday, August 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
Where: Multnomah Athletic Club, 1849 SW Salmon St.
How Much: $35 per person includes samplings of tarts, sparking wine, European-style cider, gourmet French cheese, premium ham, and more. Reservations can be made online by clicking here or by phone at 503-223-8388.

4th Annual IIPA Fest at Saraveza

What:  Sample the region’s best IIPAs from a selection of 30+ rotating beers, including some never poured before. The festival will also include live music, guest brewers, and double BLTs.
When: Saturday, August 10 from 11 am to 11 pm.
Where: Saraveza, 1004 N Killingsworth St.
How Much: $20 includes a commemorative glass and 10 drink tickets. Tickets available on the Saraveza website.

Tortilla Making Class at Xico

What: Xico chef Kelly Myers will share her secrets at this hands-on class. Learn más about masa and how to make the perfect tortilla. Students get to take home a pound of fresh masa and two salsas.
When: Saturday, August 10 from 2 to 3:30 pm.
Where: Xico, 3715 SE Division St.
How Much: $25 per person (kids are free!) includes hands-on class, a pound of masa and two fresh salsas to take home. Call 503-548-6343 for details.

Venison Hunting and Butchery Class

What:  The Portland Meat Collective and Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife have teamed up to offer a full day course on archery, deer hunting, and venison butchery. The class, which is limited to 10 lucky students, also includes a wild game lunch prepared by Chef Eric Bechard of Kingdom of Roosevelt.
When: Sunday, August 11 from 8 am to 5 pm.
Where: Springfield, Oregon

Ode to Summer Party at The Fireside

What: NW 23rd's newest restaurant celebrates the season with their first street party filled with music, games, and food. The Fireside folks are shutting down Johnson St. between 23rd and 24th to make room for barbecues and boiling crawfish pots. Other seasonal specialties available for purchase include grilled corn on the cob with Calabrian chile butter, housemade Kielbasas, and watermelon salad with arugula and mint. 
When: Sunday, August 11 from noon to 5 pm.
Where: The Fireside, 801 NW 23rd Ave. 
How Much: Food and drink specials available for purchase, no reservations necessary. 

Besaw’s 110th Anniversary Bash

What:  Celebrate 110 years of Besaw’s history at the restaurant’s all day block party. This “Grand Outdoors Bizarre” will feature fire-eaters, kissing llamas, strength competitions, live music, and a Prohibition-era speakeasy. 100% of the proceeds of the event will go to benefit The Friendly House, working to connecting people of all ages and backgrounds through quality educational, recreational, and other life-sustaining services.
When: Saturday, August 24.
Where: Besaw’s, 2301 NW Savier St.
How Much: Free to attend. Food and drink available for purchase. No RSVP necessary, just show up with your kissing llama!

Albacore Canning Workshop

What:  Learn the fine craft of fish filleting and canning at this Portland Culinary Workshop event. Attendees will learn every step of the fish canning process, from wielding knives to sourcing fish, and leave with over 6 pints of prime albacore tuna.   
When: Saturday, August 24 from 9 am to 12 pm.
Where: Portland Culinary Workshop, 807 N Russell St.
How Much: $85 includes a hands-on class and 6.5 pints of canned tuna. Purchase tickets here.

Tequila Dinner at Oba

What:  Enjoy award winning Herradura tequilas paired with Executive Chef Scott Neuman’s Nuevo Latino cuisine. 
When: Saturday, August 24 at 6:30 pm.
Where: Oba Restaurante, 555 NW 12th Ave.
How Much: $85 per person. Call 503–228–6161 for reservations.

Burgers & Barolo

What:  Savor six exquisite wines made from Nebbiolo, the grape of Barolo, and retrieved from the depths of Genoa’s cellar. Co-hosted by wine expert David Speer of Ambonnay and sommelier Michael Garofola of Genoa, this summer event will also feature an array of delicious burgers and sides.
When: Sunday, August 25 from 3 to 6 pm.
Where: Atrium of the Olympic Mills Building, 107 SE Washington St.
How Much: $48 includes six wines paired with burgers and sides from Genoa. Purchase tickets here.
