Bunk Alberta Readies to Launch

Tommy Habetz and Nick Wood are about ready to swing open the doors at their Northeast Alberta sandwich shop, the newest location of their Bunk Sandwiches empire. The cubano-and-sub slingers are shooting to launch by February 4, with optimistic hopes to open as early as Friday, January 31.
While this latest location—in the same Alberta Street block home to Bollywood Theater, Salt and Straw, and Via Chicago—will offer a menu largely similar to current outposts of the big-flavor franchise, the owners promise a few new menu items to complement the new digs.
Expect expanded salad offerings like romaine ceasars and cobb salads, and unexpected sandwiches-turned-salads featuring Italian cured meats. Taking cues from Bunk’s other mexican-inspired drinking fare, like mole tots and queso deluxe, the new joint will offer carne asada fries inspired by a recent weekend Wood spent in San Diego.
“Tommy went down there a little while after me and said, ‘you weren’t kidding about those fries,’ so we’re going to do them here,” Wood told PoMo.
On the beverage front, Habetz and Wood promise a frozen margarita machine like the ones at both Bunk Bar locations and a full bar boasting beer cocktails.
Perhaps best of all, hungry patrons at the 40-seat Alberta location will be able to enjoy the brand's famously decadent sandwiches and margaritas outdoors during warmer months thanks to picnic tables on a back patio. We sense a summer hot spot in the making!
