South Meets Northwest with BBQ and Wine

Willamette Valley Vineyards serves up Southern sustenance with some of Memphis’s top chefs.

While we adore the market-fresh fare of the Pacific Northwest, every now and then we get a hankering for the laid-back comfort of some good ol' Southern cooking—and if you’ve ever been south of the Mason-Dixon line (or stood in line for three hours to get into the Screen Door) you know what we’re talking about. Creamy macaroni and cheese, savory barbecued meats, and crispy fried, well, anything, all waiting to be devoured at a table circled with friends and family.

On August 9, southern-lovin' foodies can indulge in all of that and more at Willamette Valley Vineyards, where winemaker Don Crank will host Savor the South: An Evening with Memphis Top Chefs. Crank has rounded up several top chefs from his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee to put on a dry-rubbed culinary feast just outside of Salem. Chefs include Felicia Willett (Felicia Suzanne’s), Craig & Elizabeth Blondis (Central BBQ), Miles McMath (St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital), Justin Burks (The Southern Vegetarian), and the winery's own own on-campus chef Eric Nelson.

In addition to bites from each of these chefs, attendees will enjoy wine pairings, live blues music, and a $25 wine credit. Guests will also have the opportunity to indulge in the release of the winery’s 2011 Hannah Pinot Noir.

Tickets for the event are $125 per person (or $100 for wine club members).  For more information or to purchase tickets, call 503-588-9463.
