Hopwork's Handmade Bike & Beer Festival

The ultimate Oregonian pairing? Bicycles and beer! Combine them in style with this 2-day artisan-powered festival at the brewery.

September 9, 2014

Calling all beer-sipping bicycle enthusiasts! Be sure to clear your schedule on the last weekend of September for the 2014 Handmade Bike & Beer Festival, hosted by Hopworks Urban Brewery in partnership with the Oregon Bicycle Constructors Association (OBCA).

The festival combines Portland’s two exciting fall events into one perfectly Portland pairing: HUB’s Biketobeerfest and the OBCA’s Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show. Nearly 30 frame builders from the Pacific Northwest and Japan have signed up for the event—including local bicycle crafters Ahearne Cycles, Machine, Pioneer Bicycle Co., and the leading technical school in the bicycle industry, United Bicycle Institute.

“HUB has always been a huge support of cycling and are very active in the cycling industry, sponsoring rides and shows. Their Biketobeerfest has seen great success in the past but they’ve always wanted a larger presence of frame builders at the show,” says Chris Benware, OBCA’s media representative. With this partnership, Benware believes that OBCA and HUB will be able to raise public awareness of the skill and craftsmanship of the state's bike builders.

The bottom line: What better way to explore the world of handmade bicycles than over a pint or two of bike-themed hand-crafted beers, with local artists playing live music in the background? To soak up the suds, HUB’s hot pizza and Ruby Jewel’s ice cream will be served at the event along with other local food vendors.
