We thought the food coming out of Portland Monthly’s Restaurant of the Year 2014, Langbaan, couldn’t get any better. We were wrong. Langbaan’s ringer and head chef, Rassamee Ruaysuntia, is teaming up with a crew of top tier chefs (all women, naturally) from across the country for a new dinner series this winter.
Shannon Waters
Sous chef at San Francisco’s buzzy pizza stronghold Flour and Water, and onetime stagiaire at Thailand’s Nahm (Ruaysuntia’s alma mater), Waters will be dishing up a sneak peek of flavors from her upcoming Spanish-leaning SF restaurant. December 7, 2014
Claire Handleman
Handlemen worked in some of New York’s best kitchens, including Del Posto, Eleven Madison Park, and Jean-Georges before entering the world of food television. Like Waters, Handleman trained at Nahm, studying under Ruaysuntia during a series of apprenticeships and will preview plates for her own upcoming Thai restaurant in New York City. January 2015
Nora Antene and Jane Hashimawari
Portland chefs Nora Antene (Le Pigeon’s pastry maven) and Jane Hashimawari (formerly of Wafu and Castagna; currently runs the kaiseki pop up, Ippai), will join forces to mastermind a Japanese, Thai, and French-influenced dining experience. February 2015
