Breakside Brewing receives an award at the 2016 World Beer Cup.

Over the weekend, the 2016 World Beer Cup winners were announced at the Craft Brewers Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. No doubt, hangovers abound. As anyone who attended last year's CBC in Portland will attest, beer industry types take their partying seriously. According to one attendee, one industry party combined craps, cheesesteaks, mechanical bulls, and Betsy Ross and Rocky impersonators for a Scotch-fueled night of unbridled debauchery.

The Brewers Association, the non-profit organizer of the World Beer Cup, received almost 7,000 entries from 1,907 breweries in 55 countries. Only 5 percent of those went home winners. Oregon claimed 17 winning beers altogether, with nine of those from the Portland area. Gold Beach's Arch Rock Brewing also took home a Champion Brewery and Brewmaster Award for "Very Small Brewery."

From Portland, Ecliptic and Occidental took home gold medals, while Base Camp, Columbia River, Portland Brewing, and Breakside won silver or bronze. Breakside's four awards (three for its Portland-brewed ales, and one for Lunch Break ISA, which is brewed in Milwaukie) makes it only one of six breweries to win three awards or more. In a press release this morning, Breakside bragged, "That's as many medals as the entire state of Washington won and three more than any other Oregon brewery."

It should be noted, Base Camp's extremely quaffable Lost Meridian Wit—which won bronze in the American-Style Wheat Beer category—was also named by Portland Monthly as one of 25 favorite summer beers last year
