Sweet news for Southeast Portland: Eb & Bean owner Elizabeth Nathan has revealed to Eat Beat that she’s opening a second location of her chic frozen yogurt shop at 3040 SE Division Street, in the space last home to Koi Fusion.
The new shop joins the original Eb & Bean’s location on NE Broadway, a thriving pit stop for tall, swirled cones and artisan topping-sprinkled cups of brightly flavored fro yo made from organic dairy, since opening in June 2014. But the Division space will have one distinct advantage: its neighbors. The new Eb & Bean will snug right between busy Stella Taco and Indian dynamo Bollywood Theater, neither of which do dessert. “It’s a dreamy little sandwich,” says Nathan with a laugh. “I’m looking forward to hopefully doing some spice- and herb-driven [fro yo] collaborations with my neighbors.”
Nathan plans to keep on track with the O.G. shop’s ever-rotating line up of traditional dairy and creative coconut-, almond-, and cashew milk-based flavors—from palm sugar peanut, passionfruit, and salty butter caramel to newer hits like blueberry chèvre with Ava chèvre from Ancient Heritage Dairy as well as local toppings like Bakeshop caramel brownie and Butterfinger-like vegan Tombumble Crumble. The new space will add a few more seats, nitro cold brew and kombucha on tap, and (most importantly come summer) shared patio space with Bollywood.
Eb & Bean’s impending opening cements SE Division Street as a bona fide dessert destination, with Salt & Straw and cult fave Pinolo Gelato along the same strip—not to mention pie mecca Lauretta Jean’s. With its emphasis on organic goods and carefully sourced and crafted toppings, a roster of genuinely delicious non-dairy options, and Nathan’s knack for lovely (but never whack-a-doo) flavor combinations, it ought to easily carve out its own sweet niche.
