Portland Ca Phe's pumpkin cream cold brew

Whether you’re mourning the end of summer or celebrating sweater weather, pumpkin season is upon us. (The jury’s out on when we’ll get the cooler temps to go with it.) You’ll find the requisite pumpkin spice in the usual places like lattes, but also in unexpected applications like pudding shots and White Russians. This being a doughnut city, you’ll also find them in vegan doughnuts and bomboloni from do-it-all restaurant and bakery Café Olli. And if you’re willing to expand your definition of pumpkin to include squashes like delicata, butternut, and kabocha, savory pumpkin dishes abound at this time of year in pasta, pizza, and more. Read on for our picks.

Hosford-Abernethy & Creston-Kenilworth
This coffee, smoothie, and juice mainstay is serving pumpkin caramel lattes and chai—but you can also get creative and add pumpkin caramel to any drink for a dollar. Pumpkin caramel chagacinno, anyone? 1121 SE Division St & 2832 SE Gladstone St

Bhuna

Northwest District
Alongside bowls like lamb rogan josh and Kashmiri kohlrabi with collards, this Indian fast casual spot is serving a seasonal special of roasted kabocha squash with chile, tamarind, turmeric, and mustard—and it also happens to be vegan. 704 NW 21st Ave

Cafe Olli

King

Cafe Olli’s bomboloni, or filled doughnuts, are already a brunch staple just a year after the restaurant’s opening. Fillings are constantly changing, and this weekend  (October 15–16) is the last chance to grab the pumpkin spice special. 3925 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd

Doe Donuts

Hollywood
With its monthly rotating menu of wacky, extravagant vegan doughnuts, Doe has not one, but two pumpkin doughnuts in the lineup for October. There’s a pumpkin twist with tres leches glaze, plus a pumpkin mousse bar with pie crust pieces—and if you count the savory curried butternut squash fritter, that takes the count up to three. 4110 NE Sandy Blvd

Lardo

Break out your best Pendleton “The Dude” sweater for fall and sip Jeff Bridges’s character’s favorite drink, a White Russian—dressed up for the season with pumpkin spice, even on the glass’s rim and showered on top of the pile of whipped cream. Various locations

Laurelwood Brewing

Rose City Park
Despite Portland’s abundance of breweries, one of our town’s few pumpkin beers can be found on tap at Laurelwood Brewing, a seasonally-appropriate amber ale with warm spices and a robust 7.5 percent alcohol content. 5115 NE Sandy Blvd

Mikiko Donuts

Kerns
Kerns’s mochi doughnut outpost often incorporates Asian flavors into its treats, from yuzu to black sesame—so it’s no surprise that straight-up pumpkin spice won’t fly here. Instead, pumpkin gets amped up with Chinese five-spice powder, which adds star anise, peppercorns, and fennel seeds to the usual suspects of cinnamon and cloves. 300 NE 28th Ave

Oma’s Hideaway

Richmond

By now, you might be familiar with the playful popping boba jello shots at Oma’s Hideaway, flavored with tropical fruits like guava and soursop. Now, a cooler weather-appropriate edible shot has entered the fray: vegan-friendly pumpkin spice pudding shots made with rum, coconut, and apple cider caramel, topped with crumbled Speculoos and café de olla syrup. 3131 SE Division St

Pizzeria Otto

Roseway & Foster-Powell
Alongside classic Neapolitan pies, Pizzeria Otto is offering a fall special offering squash on squash: delicata squash with squash crema, plus gorgonzola, mozzarella, and parmesan cheeses and house pickled peppers. 6708 NE Sandy Blvd & 7122 SE Foster Rd

Portland Ca Phe

Creston-Kenilworth
The home of Portland’s now-famous ube latte made with 100% Vietnamese coffee beans also serves up a number of pumpkin specials for fall, from the classic pumpkin spice latte to pumpkin cream cold brew to pumpkin cream Diaspora chai. 2815 SE Holgate Blvd

Zuckercreme

Montavilla

What’s a pumpkin list without pumpkin pie? This hybrid café and pop-up space is finally serving its namesake pie for the first time since opening one year ago. Sugar cream pie is an Indiana classic, and Zuckercreme will be spicing it up with a layer of pumpkin purée and a rye crust. It’ll be available starting at the shop’s Halloween party on October 29. 414 SE 81st Ave
