There’s a reason why Covid Hair has become a hashtag right now. The results of weeks without visiting your stylist are visible on every Zoom meeting and FaceTime—bangs sneaking past your eyelids, roots bouncing off the bad lighting, frizz creeping past the frame. Fear not, Portlanders—your local stylists have your back, with tips, video tutorials, and all round good advice about how to get through this time without ending up like this guy or slicing your ear off.
Dayna Cakebread, Portland stylist, hair educator, and creator of 3 To Be Me has put together some godsend videos, with recommended items for your home salon, and tips for cutting bangs (note to self: cut backward!), keeping hair healthy, and covering the most visible roots (the less you attempt this, the less will have to be corrected afterward, she says).
See below for some snip tips:

Tamara Dayton, owner of South Waterfront’s Oranj Studio recommends patience when it comes to color. “I’m telling people to wear hats!” she says saying store bought color can give inconsistent results and even make things worse. She’s working on videos that will give clients hair workarounds—"simple styles, like braids, or easy ways to pin your bangs back instead of butchering them with kitchen shears!”
And local chain Ginger Salon has launched a whole new service for Corona times: Ginger Snaps Virtual Hair Design Consultations offer 45-minute consults with clients on Skype or FaceTime, with a custom tutorial depending on your needs. All details at their website, including this addendum: “Awesome jokes included at no extra charge.”
