Fear not, Portlanders—your local stylists have your back, with tips, video tutorials, and all round good advice about how to get through this time without ending up like this guy or slicing your ear off.
Dayna Cakebread, Portland stylist, hair educator, and creator of 3 To Be Me has put together some godsend videos, with recommended items for your home salon, and tips for cutting bangs (note to self: cut backward!), keeping hair healthy, and covering the most visible roots (the less you attempt this, the less will have to be corrected afterward, she says).

Tamara Dayton, owner of South Waterfront’s Oranj Studio recommends patience when it comes to color. “I’m telling people to wear hats!” she says saying store bought color can give inconsistent results and even make things worse. She’s working on videos that will give clients hair workarounds—"simple styles, like braids, or easy ways to pin your bangs back instead of butchering them with kitchen shears!”
