For a small Southern Oregon town, Bandon, Oregon, is known for a lot of things. If you’re a golf fan, there’s the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. Foodie? Check out the annual Cranberry Festival, which celebrates the local cranberry farming industry, or Face Rock Creamery, the yummy reinvention of the Bandon Cheese factory after the latter was bought and dissolved by the Tillamook County Creamery Association. For nature lovers, there are yurts for rent at Bullard Beach State Park and miles of pristine beaches to comb.

It’s easy to see why Bandon was dubbed one of the “Coolest Small Towns in America” by Budget Travel magazine. All of which makes this listing on a private five-acre lot 12 minutes from historic downtown that much better. Even though, as an updated and enlarged A-frame cabin, it already has a lot going for it.  

Given all the love and attention they garner on Instagram, A-frames can be kinda tricky in real life, what with their angular walls that aren’t necessarily conducive to good furniture placement, and the steeply pitched roof, which can make the upper level veer tight. But this particular A-frame is the best of two worlds, boasting the trademark charm of its form and enough straight walls to fit the beds against. Built in 1974, it has the iconic triangular shape, as well as an additional two-story wing, and attached two-car garage, all painted an inky black and capped with a metal roof. 

Inside, the eye candy continues, with the main living spaces clustered at the base of the triangle, and much of the interior outfitted in gorgeous wood, from the diagonal paneling on a feature wall in the living room, to the exposed beams of the structural framework, to the loft above. There, the wood extends up to the ceiling’s point, to ensconce the cozy primary bedroom and an even cozier all-purpose nook above it, accessed by a ladder.

Three more bedrooms and a bathroom occupy the wing, and there’s also an owner’s closet prepped and ready for using this home as a vacation rental. Outside, find a deck with a lounge spot, grill, and hot tub; a fenced garden with raised beds; as well as a separate outbuilding, now styled as a music studio/lounge.

At 1872 square feet, this is sizable version of the A-frame type, and the five forested acres, with proximity to beaches and the Whiskey Run mountain biking trail, feels like a personal enclave. No stress here, not even to pick out a new couch, as the sale includes everything inside–from the furniture and linens, to the yard tools and musical instruments–so you only need to bring the food and friends and jam.
