In the dark days of December, infamous but popular ride-sharing service Uber marauded into Portland without permission. (Travis Kalanick, the company’s brash CEO, revels in clashes with taxi companies and local governments.) After Mayor Charlie Hales and Commissioner Steve Novick sued the company and promised harsh crackdowns on drivers, the rivals declared a truce set to last until April 9. The city says it will revise its taxi rules. Uber says it will be “smarter and more humble” in general. But what does that mean for a company valued at $41 billion? Here, we run the numbers.
