Portland is expanding its traffic camera enforcement throughout the city, by adding a series of speed cameras and red-light cameras. (Read our coverage on the camera expansion program here.) All cameras are marked by signage before the camera. The ensuing traffic tickets are pricey, typically $265 for rolling a red, or $170 for mild speeding.

Policymakers hope that the cameras will help flatten the spike in the number of pedestrian traffic deaths, which have been on the rise since the start of the pandemic, and disproportionately affects people of color, as well as low-income and houseless residents.
