PODCAST: The Husband-and-Wife Duo of "Native Americana" Brand Ginew

Erik Brodt and Amanda Bruegl are doctors by day, fashion designers by night. They talk family heritage, the creative process, and the challenges of the Portland market.

By Eden Dawn July 25, 2016

It all started with wedding gifts. When Erik Brodt (Anishinaabe-Ojibwe) and Amanda Bruegl (Oneida and Stockbridge-Munsee) got married, they made belts as gifts for their bridal party using buffalo hunted by Erik’s father. In 2010, that became apparel line Ginew, which now includes a range of accessories and selvedge denim coats. The couple—who each hold down day jobs as doctors—sat down to discuss family heritage, the Native American fashion exhibit currently on at the Portland Art Museum, and how their medical training serves them as fashion designers.
