Slide Show: Portland Monthly’s Woman Up
On May 12th and 13, Portland Monthly’s Woman Up! Festival took over Marylhurst University campus offering an alternative to brunch and fundraiser for Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest. In conjunction with Portland Monthly’s May Oregon Woman issue, we’re bringing together 50+ female leaders and woman-owned businesses for Saturday’s Day of Wellness and Sunday’s Mother’s Day race and free Woman Up! Festival (it truly was fun for the whole family)!
Saturday’s Day of Wellness, made possible by Cambia Health Solutions, was filled with inspiration. The day started off with sun salutations lead by Training Day PDX and breakfast from Elephants Delicatessen, Imperfect Produce, and SIP Juice Bar. An engaging panel discussion entitled “What Healthy Really Looks Like” kept guests focused as they grazed on breakfast bites. After the morning’s yoga and nosh, attendees launched into breakout workshops focusing on Getting Out There and lead by local lady legends, such as Point Gym and Kitchen, NW Dance Project, Pause Meditation, Burncycle, Barre 3, Bleeding Hearts Kettlebell, MegaBurn and EMERJ-SafeNow.
Woman Up participants reunited for lunch and a powerful keynote featuring Oregon Supreme Court Justice Adrienne Nelson and Cambia Health Solutions Sr. VP of Corporate Accountability and Performance Peggy Maguire. Lunch lead into an afternoon panel entitled “Be The Change,” followed by a second round of breakout workshops—this time focused on Finding Your Bliss and including Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls, ceramics, illustrations, sun prints, pinch pots, wine tasting, kombucha brewing, financial planning and career coaching.
Everyone took out their notebooks and pencils for Georgia Lee Hussey’s “Discovering Our Money Stories” presentation. The day began to wind down with a happy hour reception honoring the women featured in Portland Monthly’s May issue feature, Oregon Women. Drinks were had, inspiration was shared, and memories were made.
The Mother’s Day Festival, presented by Regence BlueCross BlueShield, offered a 5K, 10K, and Woman Up Festival. Guests enjoyed music curated by She Shreds’s Fabi Rena while they shopped at Evelyn & Bobbie and Athleta, runners stretched with Joyn and Training Day PDX, and golfers warmed up their swings with LPGA. Healthy nuggets were given out from Oregon Eye Specialists, 360 Pelvic Health, and IVC’s Women’s Health. Pampering was had by Dragontree Spa, Dipped PDX, and Spa Sasse. Kids kept busy playing in a massive obstacle course, engaging with arts and crafts, and then participating in the Kids’ Dash equipped with Regence Super Kid Capes! All were rewarded with refreshing beverages from Truly Spiked & Sparkling, Sam ’76, Angry Orchard, and Lagunitas. The Woman Up brunch bar served greyhounds and mimosas with Maryhill wines and Effen vodka. Delicious bites from Artemis Foods, La Pomme De Portland, Canteen, Garden Bar, and Nineteen27 S’mores kept everyone fueled up. Major thanks go to Bank of America for keeping everyone hydrated and caffeinated.
