A Decade of Excellence in the Willamette Valley

A Milestone Year
Ten years ago, Master Sommelier Larry Stone found a piece of land in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills that he believed could redefine the future of American wine. Today, that vision is Lingua Franca—an estate winery known for expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, a dedication to sustainable viticulture, and a thoughtful, community-driven approach to hospitality.
From the beginning, Lingua Franca was about more than just wine. “Since my early 20s the Willamette Valley has been the only place outside the Côte d’Or I believe would be capable of making truly refined, vibrant, and complex Pinot Noir,” says Stone. That belief became the foundation for a brand that’s helped elevate Oregon’s global wine reputation.
Crafting Wines That Speak of Place
The Lingua Franca estate vineyard, once the Janzen Farm, sits on volcanic soils long admired by Oregon winemakers. With guidance from renowned viticulturist Mimi Casteel, the vineyard was established using organic and regenerative practices—a commitment that continues to define the brand’s ethos.

With the addition of Burgundian legend Dominique Lafon and winemaker Thomas Savre, the winery quickly began producing wines that tell the story of the land—its soils, climate, and ecology—expressed through intentional, restrained winemaking.
The results have earned international acclaim and placements at top restaurants across the country. Yet what defines Lingua Franca most is not accolades, but its authenticity. The term lingua franca refers to a universal language that is used to connect people of diverse backgrounds. For Stone, it’s the perfect name for a winery, and that idea continues to shape everything the winery does—something you can experience firsthand by planning a visit to the vineyard.
A Winery Experience Like No Other
Guests who visit the Lingua Franca estate discover more than a tasting room. They’re invited into an ongoing conversation about wine, farming, and community. The hospitality space offers panoramic vineyard views and an intimate atmosphere that encourages connection and curiosity.
While each visit is unique, the spirit is always the same: warm, insightful, and rooted in a desire to help people understand what makes this place—and these wines—so special.
Beyond the Valley
For those who cannot travel to Willamette Valley, Lingua Franca offers multiple ways to connect. Wine lovers can join the allocation list for access to limited-production releases or shop directly online.
Many discover Lingua Franca on the wine lists of Michelin-starred restaurants, where its reputation for purity and balance has earned the attention of leading sommeliers.

The winery also participates in thoughtfully curated events throughout the year, from collaborative dinners to tastings in cities across the country. This year, in honor of the 10th anniversary, Lingua Franca is bringing the celebration to longtime fans and new audiences alike.
Looking Back, Looking Ahead
A decade in, Lingua Franca is more than a successful winery, it’s a model for how vision, values, and a sense of place can come together to create something lasting. From its sustainably farmed vineyard to its presence in world-class restaurants, the brand remains grounded in its founding ideals and is committed to thoughtful growth.
