The Marylhurst School

The Marylhurst School is an independent, inclusive learning community serving preschool through 8th-grade students on a 38-acre forested campus in Oregon City. Rooted in progressive education, we offer a nature-rich environment where children grow into confident learners, imaginative thinkers, and engaged citizens. Our yearlong, thematic curriculum is guided by children’s questions, interests, and wonderings, which fosters deep, meaningful learning through exploration and connection.
Early Learning (Ages 3–4)
Rooted in play and exploration, our preschool and pre-kindergarten programs introduce early literacy, numeracy, and multicultural perspectives while nurturing skills like persistence, collaboration, and creativity. These early years lay the foundation for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond.
Primary School (K–5)
Students in grades K–5 learn in multi-age classrooms that support both social
and academic growth. Broad, integrated units of study connect literature,
science, history, art, and music, while hands-on learning encourages curiosity
and engagement.
Middle School (6–8)
Middle school at Marylhurst provides students with the space to grow, the freedom to explore, and the challenge of rigorous, inquiry-based learning. Through year-long thematic studies, student-led projects, and mentor-apprentice relationships, students develop confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of self.
At every level, The Marylhurst School blends academic depth with joyful
learning, preparing students not just for what’s next, but for a lifetime of
curiosity and purpose.
