It’s been a sad summer of losses in the local retail market. We’ve said goodbye to Solestruck, Johnny Sole, and now, Physical Element, which will close its doors at the end of November. The Pearl District boutique, originally an activewear shop, morphed into one of the city’s most avant-garde boutiques. Stocked with high-end Japanese and European designers, owner Jo Carter made a name for her inventory, carrying pieces ranging from Scando designer Bitte Kai Rand’s draped, strappy overalls to local line West Daily’s knit tank dresses.
In a statement sent out to customers, Carter wrote, “After almost 14 years in business, it is with heartfelt thanks and gratitude that I announce that this is Physical Element’s last season. Our last day will be November 27th (Thanksgiving weekend).
It has been a wonderful experience, in no small part to meeting all of you. I couldn’t have wished for a more phenomenal group of women to have in my life. You inspire me.
A new venture awaits me and I’m very excited about it. The time has come to pursue a dream that has been percolating for several years. As the details fall into place, I’ll be excited to keep you in the loop if you wish.
We will be contacting many of you directly in the coming days to remind you of any outstanding gift certificate or store credit balances you may have so you can redeem them before we close. Please join us throughout the season as we celebrate our 14 year run. We will host Mellisa Finelli for one last trunk show on October 7th and 8th, and are in talks with Amy Downs for hats!
Please know this decision did not come lightly, as Physical Element and you have been so near and dear to my heart. With that said, the Fall collections are exceptional this year and I’m excited to showcase both our tried and true favorites as well as new, inspired lines.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
