The 2019 Thorns Jerseys Are Here
On Wednesday night, the Portland Thorns unveiled their 2019 primary and secondary jerseys atop the Porter Hotel. The Thorns will wear one of these versions to start the season on the road against the Orlando Pride on Sunday, April 14.
No, the red/black and white kits are not a radical departure from last year, but they add some new details. According to the team’s design-speaky press release, the new primary kit features interlocking red and black stripes, meant to evoke “the red smoke that the Rose City Riveters set off in the North End of Providence Park when Thorns FC score a goal.” The secondary kit is also inspired by the North End's gray smoke, “echoing the home energy while the team is on the road.” As with last year’s kits, there are two stars above the team crest for the Thorns’ two National Women’s Soccer League championships, in 2013 and 2018.
It’s got a little ’80s graffiti, Michael Jackson “Beat It” video vibe. The best details, however, are reserved for the black and white socks, both of which subtly feature interlocking rose stems running up the back of the legs.
Providence Health & Services continues to sponsor the team for the seventh straight year. The new Jersey Mike’s Subs sponsorship is tucked underneath the numbers on the back of both shirts.
The jerseys will go on sale this Friday, March 15, at shopthornsfc.com and at the Timbers and Thorns FC Team Store (1967 W Burnside St).
