It probably goes without saying that this week’s national headlines have featured more than enough politics to go around. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t take a minute to point out that here on the local level, you might want to clear out a little more room for debate.

Next Tuesday (March 30), the Oregon League of Conservation Voters—along with co-hosts, Environment Oregon, Oregon Environmental Council, and the Oregon Chapter of the Sierra Club—will be hosting the 2010 Governor’s Race Environmental Debate.

Considering the May 18 primary will be breathing down these guy’s necks, this may be your last chance to hear dems Bill Bradbury and John Kitzhaber and republican Allen Alley give their spin on wind turbines, global warming, clean water, and whether Kitzhaber should switch to free-range boot leather.

I’d also be doubly remiss if I didn’t note that my savvy colleagues here at the mother ship have been all over the Guv wannabes during the last few weeks. (Check out Why You? for extended talks with all four primary candidates.)

But if your vote lives or dies with stances on dam removals, the LNG pipeline and the like, then swing by PSU to hear views straight from the candidates themselves. (The event is free, but you do need to reserve a seat.)

Those looking for extra credit take note: you can peruse the Oregon League of Conservation Voters site for endorsements on pro-environment candidates for just about every state and local level election. So which gubernatorial candidate does OLCV endorse you ask? Well, for that you have to wait till after the debate. An inconvenient truth that reminds me of the old saying—that’s why they play the game.

Certainly something I would have done well to remember prior to picking my March Madness brackets last week. But that’s a whole other post.
