Hopped up on Hood
Last week Skiing magazine released its list of the best ski-town microbrews. Never one to shy away from snow or suds, I plowed through the entries looking to see if any of my favorites had made the cut.
Breckenridge, Colorado’ s Breckenridge Brewery; Boulder, Colorado’s Avery Brewing; Jackson, Wyoming’s Snake River Brewery—so far so good. Any skier would do well to kick their boots up and quaff these suds.
And entries that I hadn’t tried, such as Lake Placid Pub and Brewery and Vermont’s Magic Hat, had me genuinely intrigued. (Note to self: maybe the East Coast ain’t all that bad after all.) Still, the Colorado-based mag’s methodology left me scratching my skis. When it was all said and done, the Beaver State managed just one entry: Deschutes Brewery.
Had the editors been suffering from snow blindness when they strung this Oregon-lite compilation together? How else to explain the fact that Mount Hood’s collection of breweries had been completely overlooked in their survey?
In any case, no ski bum’s quest for ale would be complete without considering our slideshow–addendum to Skiing’s top ten. And in the meantime: More beer for us.
