Park Place
Thanks to the Lloyd Transportation Management Association and the Doubletree Hotel, bike riders are about to get some plush new digs when it comes to stashing their bikes on the eastside.
Tomorrow, the two camps will cut the ribbon on a new bike corral in the first level of the Doubletree’s covered parking garage located at 1000 NE Multnomah Street. The two-wheeled haven consists of 27 new “staple” racks that can hold a total of 54 bikes.
Lloyd TMA, a group that works with local businesses to improve public mobility within the Lloyd District, donated the racks to the hotel. For their part, Doubletree freed up three automobile parking places in order to house the new hardware. Doubletree also agreed to maintain the site. And since it’s in Doubletree’s garage, there will be a parking lot attendant on-duty to help safeguard your ride too.
OK, I know what you’re thinking. What’s this gonna cost me?
How about, nothing? Nada. Zilch. Zippo. That’s right, this is free parking that’s open to the public.
“This is just the result of a really nice partnership,” Heather McCarey, a project manager for Lloyd TMA, told me while pointing out the fact that Doubletree, which normally charges up to 18 bucks a day for parked cars, has placed a strong emphasis on sustainability in their business and was all too happy to lend a hand to the cause.
Now, as for hooking you up with a free room? Yeah, not so much.
