2010 Ski Film Premeries
My trip out to Oregon Heritage Farms to score some fresh-squeezed cider, and a couple of caramel-covered Galas yesterday (and where I may or may not have introduced my son to his first "bouncy" room experience) confirmed it is indeed harvest time.
And while you might be well aware of the influx of apples, pears, pumpkins, and assorted gourds that are soon to be inundating area farmers markets, there’s another harvest underway—that of the yearly ski film. And this season has produced a bumper crop.
From the giants like Warren Miller and Teton Gravity Research to relatively smaller outfits like Matchstick Productions and Level 1, the industry’s lineup of eye-popping ski porn exploits that are queued up to whet your appetite for winter has never been more stacked. TGR is even going 3-D this year. Now how do you like them apples?
To help you separate the wheat from the chaff, here’s a few trailers, beginning with Absinthe Films’ NowHere, which debuts in Portland this Friday at the Clinton Street Theater and serves as a benefit for Portland Snowrider Foundation and the Protect our Winters Foundation, from films that look to be the cream of the crop.
