Wine Country’s Newest Cottage

Premier Newberg restaurant, the Painted Lady, adds an adorable guesthouse right next door.

June 19, 2012

The quaint Painted Lady cottage (to the left of the restaurant above) sits at the intersection of Second and College streets, a block from downtown’s collection of shops (don’t miss Honest Chocolates’ handmade delights), restaurants, and tasting rooms (for whites, try Chehalem Wines, just east of the cottage).

Newberg’s Painted Lady restaurant has been quietly dishing out exquisite modern fare from a quaint restored 1898 Victorian home in the heart of town since 2005. But now this hidden gem is serving up something different altogether: a picture-perfect place to overnight.

Husband-wife owners Allen Routt (also the restaurant’s chef) and Jessica Bagley debuted the century-old cottage next door to the restaurant at the end of May, and word has already been sneaking out: At last check, weekends in June were booked, but you can still snag a few in July and mid-week is wide open.

Tripster got a first-hand peek at this well-placed little guesthouse, mere steps from Newberg’s tasting rooms, shops, and restaurants. Take a tour yourself with our slide show.

$225 per night; two-night minimum required
