Situated on a forested bluff above the Metolius River, just a few miles up the road from Camp Sherman, House on the Metolius combines classic Cascadian architecture with the beauty of Central Oregon: Juniper and pine flank the house, their scent mingling with that of a woodfire, sizzling and popping in the massive living room. But for 50 years, this sanctuary was an invite-only affair as the private family retreat of the Lundgren family. In April, the owners welcomed the rest of us into the clan.
