British Airways to Increase Nonstop Service between London and Portland This Summer

Daily nonstop flights from PDX to Heathrow will use the larger Boeing 777 airplane and offer travelers some luxe options.

Just a year after launching its first nonstop route from Portland International Airport to London Heathrow, British Airways is set to increase flights between PDX and LHR to daily service beginning in June.

British Airways began the service in 2022 with five flights per week on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. This summer, the airline will operate one flight per day using a larger Boeing 777-200ER aircraft—the first of its kind at PDX, according to Kama Simonds, the airport’s public information officer. Daily flights will cease at the end of October.

Catherine Wilson, global public relations manager for British Airways, says that increased service will not only provide more flexibility for travelers seeking to visit the United Kingdom, but also in making connections through Heathrow to other parts of Europe.

“I think it’s a testament to the demand,” she says. “We’re excited to keep supporting this route.”

Flights from Portland will connect through Heathrow’s Terminal 5 where, Wilson says, the airline maintains its hub and travelers can take advantage of arrival lounges while transiting through the airport.

British Airways flights using the 777 include a business class option with lay-flat beds, roomy storage compartments, and enhanced dining that had been scaled back during the pandemic.
