Crime fog

noun

A totally imaginary crime wave. See: the recent Portland State University study showing that a majority of Oregonians believe the state’s crime rate has gone up—even though the crime rate is actually at a 43-year low. In a sentence: “We may need to build mirage prisons and deploy cops on unicorns to combat this severe crime fog.”
