BINGO IMPRESARIO BRIAN PEREZ: “About a year ago, the Woods wanted me to host something. I wanted a trivia night. They suggested bingo, which sounded like a terrible idea. But I figured, at least it’s something. I went out to a ‘real’ bingo hall in Beaverton—and it was horrifying. If you so much as talk to your friends, someone screams or curses at you. So basically, I decided to create a night that was fun, lighthearted, and full of banter. I do a lot to make it more theatrical. When someone wins, a bubble machine goes on and they come to the stage in a halo of bubbles.

“I’d say we’re getting well over 100 people every Monday night. One of my regulars, Larry, has been there just about every week since last November, and he’s never won a game. Not a single game. It’s statistically totally improbable. Now he’s become one of my foils. He says that if he ever does win, he’ll never come again. So I sort of hope his streak continues.”

Bourbon & Bingo takes place at 8 p.m. Mondays at the Woods, 6637 SE Milwaukie Ave. Admission is free; bingo (and bourbon) costs vary.
