Miser Chic (n)

December 23, 2011 Published in the January 2012 issue of Portland Monthly

Miser Chic (n)

The deep-rooted (almost reflexive) tendency of Portlanders, when complimented upon an item of clothing or jewelry, to respond immediately with how little they paid for it.

In a sentence: “Even my West Hills aunt is totally into miser chic. The other day I told her I liked her mink, and she was like, ‘Vintage! Two hundred bucks!’”
