Do This Now: New Year's Edition

Post-holidays, clear your head at the Lan Su Garden with tai-chi (every Thursday) or mahjong (first and third Thursdays). For more active recovery, head down to the PDX Ballroom Classic (Jan 12), a dance competition open to all. If you still have energy, the Kaiser Permanente Fight for Air Climb (Jan 27), a footrace to the top of Big Pink to benefit the American Lung Association, will burn off December indulgences.
Seventy-four-time Jeopardy! champ Ken Jennings comes to Powell’s City of Books (Jan 17) to promote his new book debunking many tried and true parental clichés. (Just don’t mention IBM’s Watson computer.) In celebration of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry’s newly renovated café, this month’s OMSI After Dark (Jan 30) will explore the science behind food and cooking.

Indulge your inner 8-year-old (or take one along) at the Northwest Reptile Expo (Jan 26) in Wilsonville, a traveling marketplace of snakes, lizards, and turtles. While you’re at it, ChocolateFest (Jan 18–20) is Portland’s answer to Willy Wonka: the fundraiser for the World Forestry Center will feature 70 exhibitors, presentations, and samples. Doom-pa-dee-doo!
