What the Festival Through the Eyes of Top Chef Gregory Gourdet

Portland's celeb-u-chef took a break from Departure last weekend to unwind at What the Festival. We hack his photo stream—and ask for details.

A lot of raving and a little red eye: at 10 pm, Gourdet poses with friends Mikal Brucken (left), Patrick Soto—of solar-powered shaved ice vendor So Cold PDX—and Fitz Ryland (right). Photo credit: Gregory Gourdet.

It was a mini-escape, really—a break of less than 24 hours from Portland's urban grind. But that's about all the time Gregory Gourdet has, between executive cheffing at Departure and slinging interviews, right and left, about life after his star turn on Top Chef.

So we wanted to know: how much fun can Gourdet pack into one night at What the Festival?

Last weekend's four-day art and electronica blow-out—dubbed "the Millennial generation's Woodstock" by NBC News—takes place on a woodsy rural ranch in the eastern shadow of Mt Hood. Gourdet is no camper, he confesses; it's the all-night open-air dance party, surrounded by serene natural beauty, that hooked him at the first WTF four years ago.

Now, every year he heads back for that "rebellious feeling of being part of a secret society." We've got his slideshow, below.
