The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art has announced a new team to drive its creative direction, with Roya Amirsoleymani, Erin Boberg Doughton, and Kristan Kennedy stepping up as artistic directors.

All three are already members of the PICA programming team. Kennedy has been with the organization—the city’s leading contemporary arts programmer and organizer of the annual Time-Based Art Festival—for 15 years and in the role of visual art curator for 12. Doughton has worked with PICA since its establishment in 1995, serving as performing arts program director since 2005. Amirsoleymani joined PICA in 2012, serving most recently as director of public engagement. 

“This collaborative approach to artistic leadership will broaden our international platform, and deepen our commitment to the local community and will allow our curatorial platform to grow and change in new ways," said PICA executive director Victoria Frey in a statement.

The three will take over the role previously occupied by Angela Mattox, who stepped down in September after six years in the position. 

Amirsoleymani, Doughton, and Kennedy begin their roles as artistic directors of PICA effective immediately.
