Au Revoir, Fenouil

The Pearl District’s Fenouil shutters after a six-year run.

Fenouil, the Pearl District’s subdued French/Northwest eatery, shut its doors for good on Sunday. According to a statement by the owners at the Dussin Group, Fenouil was “not able to weather the storm of the financial crisis,” and served its last dinner on April 3.

Since its extravagant opening in 2005, Fenouil has made an impression on Portland’s dining scene, with notable performances from former Carlyle chef Jake Martin and pastry pro Kristen Murray (now at Paley’s Place). Murray left after a short, sweet stint, and the kitchen seemed to fall off the radar in a competitive restaurant town full of French/Northwest malaise. It’s the second splashy restaurant closed by the Dussin Group, which also owned Lucier on the South Waterfront.
