Slide Show: New Lunch Dishes at Smallwares
Johanna Ware's Northeast Fremont hideaway is reining in its fair share of Restaurant of the Year accolades, but its solid lunch service (served Mon-Fri starting at 11:30 am) is still flying under the radar. Smallwares offers a quirky and downright delicious "inauthentic" Asian dishes with artful arrangements and unexpected ingredients, praised by Portland Monthly's Karen Brooks for its successful "rethinking of dinner, Asian cult foods, and Oregon larder all at once." Now that the space is offering midday dishes like kimchi stew and oxtail curry sandwiches, it's time to add "weekday lunch" to that list. (All photos by Allison Jones)
