FOOD DELIVERY

Taco The Town

Hurray for Mexican food biked directly to your door.

If you're anything like I am, the idea of painstakingly preparing an evening meal for you and your loved one(s) ranks right up there with early morning dog walks on the domestic duties chart. Sure, you can order pizza from the usual dough boys, or you can call Delivered Dish to fetch foodstuffs from a variety of local eateries. But it won't be particularly cheap or speedy. Unless you call Taco The Town, that is.

Vermont transplants Megan Sanchez and Alec Morrison work out of a kitchen on NE Sandy three nights a week, pressing tortillas by hand and fielding phone calls from hungry citizens. A minimum order is $10, which is good for five tacos ($2 apiece), either carnitas (slow-cooked Carlton Farms pork) or a couple of imaginative rotating veggie options. Sides such as refried black beans, salsas, and extra tortillas are also $2. I ordered five tacos, beans, and salsa, and my order came to a very reasonable $14. I was pleased to note that the food arrived by bike courier about 15 minutes after I placed my order, and that all the items were wrapped separately, so I could administer meat, cilantro, and radish slices to my own personal specifications. Best of all, the pork was tender and tasty, and the hand-pressed tortillas sturdy but soft. Taco the Town doesn't charge a delivery fee, but a handsome tip for the courier is appreciated. Hey, it's cold out there!

As for delivery range, Sanchez tells me they're still figuring that one out, but a three-mile radius from NE Sandy and 26th is about right. At the moment, service is limited to Thur-Sat from 5-10pm, but Sanchez hopes that they'll be adding hours soon.
