This year, Portland restaurants give us plenty of reasons to raise a glass and toast to the season. Here are our picks to get your partying off to a tasty start.

In an evening that is surely a lot more pleasant (and palatable!) than Ebeneezer Scrooge’s ghastly tour through his past, present, and future life, sit back and reflect over three courses with this creative themed menu. For the Past, they have whipped up starters like Roman-style tripe stew, and a five-minute egg. For Present, think ricotta and black radish crostada, and roast beef. Last up, Future, between the chocolate and strawberry Apocalypse Cake and the Pineapple Cake with lychee ice cream, you have two very different, albeit delicious, choices.

• Mi Mero Mole Mexican Christmas

In it’s third year, celebrate Christmas dinner with a spicy Oaxacan punch at the Chiles in Nogada Christmas dinner, Monday, December 16th at 7 pm. Butternut squash soup with squash blossoms and red jalapeno relish start your dinner, followed by tamales laced with mole negro and chiles in nogada roasted poblanos, finished off with a rum raisin bread pudding.

Everyone celebrates the holidays with their own traditions and if yours involves filling masa with spicy goodness, don’t miss Mi Mero Mole’s annual Tamalada, Sunday December 22nd, at their downtown location (NW 5th and Couch). They supply an assortment of fillings, corn husks, and know how, and, and after an afternoon of masa rolling fun, you walk away with a half–dozen handmade tamales. • The Original's Happy Holidays Menu

Open Christmas Day for both brunch and dinner in its swanky, retro lux downtown digs, it’s worth swinging by The Original en route to your next white elephant party. With three menus to choose from and a selection of bubbly for toasting, there’s something here for everyone. Their festive “Happy Holidays” menu features twists on Christmas favorites like Christmas goose, hoisin glazed duck Chinese dinner, and sticky toffee pudding, and their “Bah Humbug” menu highlights solid winter classics like seafood gumbo, and a London broil.

• Bar Avignon's Seasonal Specials

Nothing gets a holiday celebration off to a good start like imbibing the night before, and for that, Bar Avignon is doing its part. Chef Eric has added a bevy of festive options to his regular menu for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. For December 24th, decadent winter fare like Dungeness crab, seared foie gras and short ribs will squelch any lingering bah humbugs and the New Year’s Eve menu features adventurous seafood like escargots grainee, and sea urchin risotto with saffron, fennel, and grana padano cheese will give you reason to belt out auld lang syne with the best of them.

• Multnomah Whiskey Library's Triple NYE Bash

Nobody ups the ante these days quite like the Multnomah Whiskey Library and, in true fashion, they are hosting not one, but three New Year’s Eve parties December 31st. Come early for the kickoff from 4–6 pm and imbibe champagne, cocktails and expertly chosen spirits and snack on a grand seafood platter, or partake in a three-course dinner that is everything delicious you’ll swear off January 1st (think– confit of pheasant, filet mignon, along with a bevy of spirits). Lastly, kick back and relish the final moments of 2013 at their cocktail party celebration from 10:30 pm to midnight complete with champagne, boozy punch, and hors d’oeuvres.

• Biwa's New Year's Eve

Celebrate the Year of the Horse at Biwa’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration with a provocative menu featuring some of their favorite Japanese traditions.  Between the sashimi moriawase (selected raw fish), ozoni soup with mochi, and toshikoshi soba for prosperity, you will welcome another delicious year in style, sake glass raised.

• Pix Patisserie's New Year's Eve Bash

Who says the fun stops January 1st? Start your resolutions later, pour yourself a glass of bubbly from one of their 61 sparkling wines available, and partake in a free chocolate buffet at the stroke of midnight (yes, you read that correctly).

• Gruner's New Year's Eve Dinner

This New Year’s Eve, Gruner invokes the spirit of “le Saint–Sylvestre” in a sumptuous, three course prix–fixe dinner  inspired by France’s Savoy region. Offering three seating times– 5:30, 7:30, and 10 pm– partake in a luxe menu with lobster salad profiteroles, raviolis escargot, and roast duckling breast, ending with a Mont Blanc­– a chestnut mousse “mountain” dusted with chocolate shavings and whipped cream.

• Din din

Go big or go home at din din’s take no prisoners New Year’s Eve throw down. Enjoy ten courses lovingly crafted by din din’s Courtney Sproule combined with wine pairings, a “white light” installation, and DJ M spinning all night. The menu features three consommés, monkfish, pheasant pistachio terrine, foie gras, and beef tenderloin.

• Andina

If the delicious food, music, and wine don’t captivate you at Andina’s annual New Year’s Eve dinner celebration, the Peruvian good luck traditions surely will. After a three-course prix fixe dinner paired with champagne or select wines, participate in a few Peruvian ‘good omen’ traditions. In the name of good luck, make like a Peruvian and walk the block with an empty suitcase and eat grapes at the stroke of midnight!

On New Year’s Eve, Chef trio Sarah Pliner, Jasper Shen, and Kat Whitehead are giving 2013 a grand send off with Aviary's four-course New Year's Eve Dinner. This holiday menu showcases their stylistic melding of French techniques and bold Asian flavors with dishes like artichoke terrine, roast leg of lamb and Tasmanian sea trout.

Fuel up for a night out at the 110 year old Besaw's New Year’s Eve Brunch (7 am–3pm) and, after a night of partying, leave your sequins on and dine at Besaw’s Walk of Shame Brunch New Year’s Day (8am–3pm). Nothing says hair of the dog like Besaw’s breakfast burger with a sunny-side up egg, grass-fed, ground beef patty, white cheddar, bacon, kale, oven-roasted tomato, and sausage gravy on Texas toast.

Grab a pint and ring in 2014 at Migration Brewing’s annual New Year’s Eve Bash. Festivities start at 8 pm and include live music, a bubbly toast at midnight, a hot off the press food menu, and unveiling a new bar. In celebration of the recent expansion, Migration has a new beer on tap for the occasion, Cross Pollination, featuring Belgian yeast, and 65 pounds of local honey.

There’s nothing as delightful as a, deep dish, flaky crust pie rounding out your holiday spread and this beloved bakery has more than you can imagine with heirloom apple, blackberry raspberry streusel, salted pecan, chocolate, and coconut cream pies. If you’d rather opt for something savory, their assortment of quiches (bacon, delicate squash, goat cheese, and broccoli cheddar) got you covered.

For those who prefer their holiday baked goods sans gluten, Tula has a wealth of carb-loaded goodness for you. Their seasonal menu includes a linzer lattice tart with clove scented almond meal crust, piles of dinner rolls, marbled walnut bread stuffing, almond dough piecrust, challah, and hazelnut chocolate rolls with flakey pastry dough.

• Mi Mero Mole

In addition to their habit forming guisados and tamales available year round, Mi Mero Mole has expanded their menu to include some favorites for the holidays. Think chiles in nogada, pans of chicken or butternut squash enchiladas laden with cheese and mole ready to warm in your oven, and a plentitude of tamales. So much more delightful than the hewn branch of wood it represents, celebrate the winter solstice in Francophile fashion with one of Pix’s les Buches De Noel. In a stroke of pure genius, little t bakery has combined two delicious holiday pastries– stolen and pannetone– into one bready, yet moist, and cloyingly sweet treat– Christmas Stolletone.
