Valley Wine Merchants in Newberg

Wine Country

In historic downtown Newberg, a new wine shop is offering a wide selection of local and international wine, including more than 200 Oregon pinot noirs. Valley Wine Merchants also offers charcuterie, cheese, and housemade hazelnut butter and pickles along with other food items that pair well with Oregon's signature grape. The shop is open seven days a week from 11 am to 6 pm. 112 S. College St, Newberg, Oregon

Southwest

Earlier this year, Noble Rot chef Leather Storrs opened Nobleoni, a restaurant on the Oregon College of Art and Craft campus serving breakfast and brunch. The campus restaurant recently added dinner service, featuring goat cheese stuffed portabella mushrooms, braised chicken, and roast salmon, available now Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 9 pm. 8245 SW Barnes Rd.

Northeast

Nontraditional Asian hot spot Smallwares is now serving dim sum-style happy hour seven days a week from 5 to 7 pm. The happy hour menu will include oxtail curry bao, cilantro pretzel hot dog, fried egg musubi, and fermented bean pork meatballs as well as a lively drink menu including the Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls, otherwise known as a session beer topped with a spicy frozen margarita. In other news from Smallwares, the restaurant recently announced that they would begin offering a family-style whole salmon, served with an array of wraps, sauces, and toppings and fileted tableside. The unique dish, which feeds up to 10 people, is $115 and should be reserved no later than Tuesday for weekend dining. 4605 NE Fremont St.

Ned Ludd is now open all day on Sundays, when lovers of wood-fired culinary creations will be able to dine at the east-side restaurant for brunch from 9 am to 2 pm, dinner from 5 pm until close, and a limited seafood-focused supper menu offered between 2 pm and 5 pm, with this month’s emphasis on raw oysters with a classic mignonette. 3925 NE MLK Blvd.

Three Oregon Culinary Institute alums—Elizabeth Marek, Michelle Honeman, and Emily Severyn—were recently featured on Food Network’s Outrageous Wedding Cakes for their custom made, glow-in-the-dark aquarium cake. The trio hails from Beaverton-based bakery, Artisan Cake Company, which specializes in unique wedding and special occasion cakes.
