Smoked Seafood Dinner at Flying Fish
What: Local sustainable fishmongers, Flying Fish, are serving up a smoked smorgasbord this week in support of their Kickstarter campaign. Multiple courses of maritime delight will include Netarts oysters, steelhead trout, and Kampachi with peach salsa along with optional beer, wine, and sake pairings. The seafood purveyors are hoping to expand their production and will be the heart and soul of the upcoming Providore Foods.

Children’s Cancer Associated Benefit at Penner-Ash
What: Newberg winery Penner-Ash is hosting a fundraising picnic concert to benefit the Children’s Cancer Association. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill concert picnic, unless your picnics are usually curated by Vitaly Paley and feature banjo wizards Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn. Last month’s fundraiser brought together Top Chef celebrities Doug Adams, Mei Lin, and Gregory Gourdet and raised $20,000.

Support Black Restaurant Days
What: In an effort to support local restaurant owners of color, and inspired by a similar event in San Francisco, Portlander Bertha Pearl has designated August 29th and 30th as Support Black Restaurant Days. For the full list of venues, visit Pearl’s Facebook page.
When: Saturday August 29th and Sunday August 30th (and every day!)
Tri-Met Hosts “Orange” Picnic
What: In honor of the new Tilikum Crossing and Orange Max line (which open September 12th), Tri-Met will host an orange-themed picnic and fireworks show on the waterfront. Food carts and a beer garden courtesy of Bridgeport will be on-site and local ice cream kings Salt & Straw will be unveiling their special edition ice cream, Olive Oil and Burnt Orange Marmalade. You’ll also see The Portland Picnic Society in attendance, with copies of their new cookbook.
