Harlow and Prasad’s Karen Pride and Brittney Galloway weren’t looking to open another restaurant. But when Portland Rock Gym owner Gary Rall suggested converting the second floor of his climbing center into an eatery, it felt like a perfect fit.

“I was drawn to the space because it reminds me of the NW Prasad location inside Yoga Pearl, where the whole body is cared for and nurtured,” Pride explains. “The idea… was immediately appealing because this space offers the combination of health food, rock climbing and yoga.”

Like its older sister in the Pearl District, Prasad East offers an all-organic menu of hearty salads, nourishing bowls, fresh juices, and superfood-loaded smoothies. Arrive before 11 am for a decadent breakfast menu of pumpkin waffles, chocolate-peanut butter oatmeal, strawberry chia pudding, and other healthful treats.

Diners can add poached eggs to their avocado toast or green bowls, and many items include honey or bee pollen, but the kitchen is otherwise vegan, as well as entirely gluten-free. Climbers craving meat can pick up Epic Jerky from the grab-and-go case, as well as energy-boosting snacks like ProBars, Skout pumpkin seeds, Humm kombucha and Rebbl tonics.

For the rock gym’s many kiddo climbers, Prasad East offers a 12-and-under menu suitable for any pint-sized palate, from chia pudding and quinoa bowls to ants on a log. Adults, meanwhile, can sip Smith tea and Trailhead coffee, or opt for the harder stuff—the spirits menu features draft beer, cider, wine, and mimosas.

Whether you're refueling from a grueling climb, craving a healthy macro meal, or simply down for some excellent people watching—the seating area doubles as an observation deck of both the climbing walls and the city street below—Prasad East has plenty to offer. The eatery's official opening is slated for Friday, November 6. Can’t wait that long? Prasad West is only a quick jaunt across the Burnside Bridge away.
