Do Fence Me In

There are nearly as many kinds of fences as neighbors who make them. Take a tour in this visual diary.

I don’t need to quote Robert Frost. We all know that fences play a useful role in our society, especially in urban areas. But how to fence: that, my dear, is the question.

To stain or not. Wood or metal. Let it rust. Paint it black. Criss cross apple sauce. Peek-a-boo cutouts. Open or opaque. Tall or small. Vertical or horizontal. Wood slats of narrow narrow narrow/wide wide wide, or wire mesh. DIY or architect-designed.

It’s fun to ponder the possibilities. Herewith, a visual diary of options.

(I could do another whole series on the fences at the Japanese Garden, but that’ll have to wait for another week.)
