A Victorian house in North Portland for rent.

Renting a place in Portland can be a bit of a blood sport—so let us here at Portland Monthly help you. A couple of times a month, we’ll be compiling a quick list of digs for rent in the city right now, at a variety of price points. This time, all our picks are in North Portland—a little removed from the downtown core, but with great public transit options and bike lanes. We’re on the lookout for non-cookie-cutter spaces—think antique detailing to useful amenities—without breaking the bank. This week: homes with stained-glass windows, outdoor fireplaces, lemon-yellow shower tiles, and even one that floats.

Arbor Lodge

$2,695, Two-Story Victorian

This jewel-toned Victorian oozes old-fashioned charm. From its stained-glass windows in the front door and upstairs bathroom to its dark stained hardwood floors, this is a rental for those who appreciate the finer things. Marble countertops in the kitchen? Check. Ample backyard space for a garden? Check. Overall square footage is 1,700 feet, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Bonus: It’s just over a half mile from Doug fir–filled Columbia Park.

Boise

$5,800, Ultra-Modern Mississippi Home

If sleek is more your style, this three-story place has all the bells and whistles. It boasts no fewer than three gas fireplaces, one located outside on a secluded patio, and a truly impressive kitchen packed with a gas range and other brand-name chrome appliances. In addition to the three bedrooms in the main home, the garage houses a studio with a Murphy bed, full kitchen, and bathroom.

Views for days from this Bridgeton houseboat's deck

Bridgeton

$4,000, Spacious and Airy Houseboat

Nestled across from Hayden and Tomahawk Islands in the Columbia, this 1,300-square-foot marina abode has a breathtaking view of Mount Hood on a clear day. The deck is the perfect place to relax by the water on a warm day, while floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of light when you need to head inside on a chilly day. Two bedroom, two bathrooms, and if you’re worried about the location being too remote, fear not! It’s only a 15-minute drive from downtown (barring traffic, that is).

As midcentury modern as it gets in Portsmouth

Portsmouth

$2,195, Midcentury Modern Bungalow

Complete with an enormous living room that’s begging to host cocktail parties, this house is all about the vintage vibes. Warm wood paneling, carpeted floors, and a fireplace create a cozy atmosphere in these old-school digs, which clock in at 1,260 square feet. There are three bedrooms but only one bathroom here. If the generous yard space isn’t enough, Columbia Park is just across the street. And who doesn’t love a shower covered in lemony yellow tiles?
