Renting a place in Portland can be a bit of a blood sport—so let us here at Portland Monthly help you. Every so often, we compile a quick list of digs for rent in the city right now, at a variety of price points. (This time, all our picks are under $2,500/month.) We’re on the lookout for non-cookie-cutter spaces—think antique detailing to useful amenities—without breaking the bank. This week: homes with stainless steel appliances, private patios, and kitchen islands.

$1,395, Sunny 1 BR, Arbor Lodge

Roomy and modern, this one bedroom has all the space you need for that entertainment center you’ve been dying to get, paired with a nice cushiony sectional (hey, when in Rome). The bright and airy living room, complete with shiny wood grain vinyl flooring, could easily double as a personal yoga studio. The open kitchen is ideal for hosting company, with a long, wide bar-style counter looking out into the living room, along with stainless steel appliances, a built-in microwave, and sleek cabinetry. Like the rest of the apartment, the bedroom also has extra space to spare. Bonus points for the washer and dryer right inside the unit. Cyclists take note: the complex also has communal indoor bicycle storage racks. Located in the Arbor Lodge neighborhood just a few blocks from the Rosa Parks MAX Station, you’re just steps away from The Arbor Lodge coffee shop, Nite Hawk, and New Seasons.
