Hot on the leather-free heels of the Southeast vegan mall that opened in November comes… a vegan strip joint? At the former home of the Pirate’s Tavern, a vegan eatery on NW Nicolai Street, the Ren Faire raiment has been replaced by birthday suits. In February, owner Johnny Diablo renamed the bar Casa Diablo Gentlemen’s Club and issued a press release in which one dancer voiced her support for working in a meat-free environment: "I can’t stand the smell of smoldering, rotting carcasses." After a cursory visit, we can attest that the only scent wafting through the air is one of desperation.
