Private Flights? A Whole New World for Travelers and Pets

Perhaps you’ve considered first class. But have you considered a private plane? Thanks to Vancouver, Washington-based KinectAir, the self-proclaimed “Uber of flying,” that may be a viable option.
The business model is intriguing: private airplanes often fly empty on their way to pick up their illustrious passengers; ditto after dropping them off. The aviation startup offers up those “empty leg flights” on its website at a steep discount. For example, an upcoming KinectAir flight from Aurora Airport (just south of Portland) to Kelowna International Airport in British Columbia costs $294 a seat for a group of three. A flight from Dalles Municipal Airport in the Gorge (90 minutes from Portland) to Boeing Field Airport in Seattle will set you back $140 a seat for a group of eight, which is $1,123 for the private plane. This is particularly attractive to fliers traveling with pets.
KinectAir’s prices are on par with first-class tickets on commercial flights, and a fraction of the exorbitant pricing of chartering a private flight. The available itineraries are limited, but allow you to set your own departure time, and come with serious rewards: you only need to arrive 15 minutes before your flight, and you can saunter onto the plane like the royalty that you are. Sounds pretty fly.
