For the Frill of It

Winter fashion collections with a little lace in the right place.

LACE ISN’T JUST Victoria’s secret anymore. The delicate fabric is in the midst of its biggest revival since Madonna famously writhed across the stage in her sheer white bustier dress at the first-ever MTV Video Music Awards in 1984. Winter collections from fashion’s vanguard (Miu Miu, Dolce & Gabbana, and Chanel, to name a few) showcase the romantic fabric’s versatility: high-neck lace collars say “Victorian,” while fingerless gloves shout “Material Girl.” Not a fashion extremist? Find the middle of the road with pieces that use lace as an accent—panels on the shoulders, openwork patterns on textured tights, bib necklaces, or thoughtful edging on a haute dress. Any way you stitch it, a little lace in the right place sings “Vogue.”
