A full year has gone by since Table of Contents opened up shop in eclectic Chinatown. An unblemished canvas of white paint dotted with unobtrusive leafy plants and neatly stacked literature, the shop retains a minimalistic and eminently Portland-like aesthetic. Owners Joseph Magliaro and Shu Hung bring their own appreciation for international wears by offering not solely American labels like Tess Giberson, but German (Correll Correll) and Japanese (Issey Miyake, Comme de Garçons) ones as well.

Coming from a background in magazines and graphic design, Seattle and New York natives, Magliaro and Hung, settled in Portland back in 2008. The city, notes Magliaro, is gaining an awareness and appreciation for varied apparel design and TOC meets that appreciation by exposing locals to international designers who breathe a certain aesthetic into their products.

"Portland is emerging as a center for design-- in a broad sense of making and crafting," says Magliaro. "There's a great concentration of design talent in Portland, and I think that it's starting to have a place internationally, where people are looking at Portland. In some ways, we want the shop to bring things to Portland-- to have an international vantage point."

Carrying product for both men and women, TOC delivers international appeal: a silk, sleeveless, v-neck tunic dress by Zero + Maria Cornejo; a wool blend jacket dubbed the "Danish Jacket" by Henrik Vibskov; even handmade leather slip-on booties from Beatrice Valenzuela. 

Home wears, such as a TOC STUDIO Oregon walnut bookshelf (set at an incline), a David Derksen Design copper light, and an Alma Allen walnut bowl are available through the shop's website, among toilettes, leather coin purses, and chunky knotted necklaces.
