Local designer Claire Doody, known for her sexy Copper Union clothing line of womenswear in sizes from 12–30, has planned a hell of a fashion show for Sunday, September 25. Knock Out is a full plus size fashion experience with stylish collections from both local and out-of-state designers: Chubby Cartwheels, Allihalla, and Proud Mary, to name a few. Emceed by entertaining comedian Leigh Rich, the show goes beyond traditional runway, opening with a talk from mental health professional Jes Baker, author of Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls. The manifesto uses Baker’s wit to encourage people of all sizes and ages to embrace a body-positive worldview, shake up preconceived notions or weight, and put mental health first.
Finally, Doody promises boozy slushy drinks, DJ Nathan Detroit spinning, and a 10-vendor pop-up shop featuring designers from the show and others like Chubstr blog for men, local boutique Fat Fancy, and Archive 6 zine press. Snag your $10 tickets here.
