That’s it: title 2016 the year of loss. On a grand cosmic level, we had our hearts broken with goodbyes to David Bowie, Alan Rickman, and Prince. In our local world, 34 restaurants have closed, including Sewickly’s, Hop & Vine, and P.R.E.A.M. And our small fashion scene has taken some big hits with a wave of closures of longtime shops—Physical Element, Johnny Sole, and now sweet Pearl District shop Mabel & Zora.
Owner and designer Tiffany Bean ran the colorful, Doris Day-inspired shop with her husband, Corey, stocking it with local and national lines. Bean is closing the shop in order to focus on her own clothing collection.
Here's more from her announcement:
“After more than ten years in business, Mabel and Zora is closing its doors.
It's a bittersweet time for us at Mabel and Zora, as we are closing our doors after more than 10 years in business in Portland.
However, do not be sad for us! It's time for me to take the next big step in my career as a designer, and the success of Mabel and Zora has allowed me to finally do so.
Designing a clothing line is something I've done 'on the side' for many years, and I'm so excited to finally be taking it on full time! So, as I feel sad saying goodbye to my sweet little boutique, I'm so excited and optimistic about what the future holds for the Tiffany Bean label."
Everything is currently 30 percent off as the shop clears out is inventory.
