Design Week 2019 Has More Fashion Events Than Ever

From industry conversation to leather-working workshops to runway shows, Design Week Portland is bringing the fashion.

On April 6 Design Week Portland returns for its seventh year. This time with an unprecedented amount of fashion related content. (Full disclosure, I sit on the Design Week jury panel, each event is produced independently.) Of the almost 200 events this year, 25 of them are categorized under the fashion filter that ranges from industry discussions on creating a more sustainable process to leatherworking workshops to good ol’ fashion runway shows. Can’t hit ‘em all? Here are four we’re excited about.

One Imaginary Girl Fashion Show

4:00 p.m. Wed, Apr 10, Hoxton, $10

You can spot a piece from designer Sarah Donofrio and her One Imaginary Girl line from a mile away thanks to her signature prints and bold clashing colors. Taking over  the Hoxton's top floor Tope space, she'll debut her spring collection in the brand's first solor show. Need more? She promises an after-show dance party. 

We Make's Final Show with Shawna X

7:o0 p.m. Tue, Apr 9, Mississippi Studios, $20

Non-profit collective WeMake produces its final show ever during Design Week, bringing in artist Shawna X. In additiona to live musical performances, the programming is focused on an discussion spanning fashion, technology, and music from the heavy-hitter whose roster of clients include Adobe, Ghostly International, New Yorker, and Warby Parker. 

Construct

4:00 p.m. Sun, Apr 7, 811 E Burnside, Free 

For one night only the majority female maker community at 811 E Burnside will convert their shops and studios into multi-room fashion performances. Visitors can travel room to room to experience transformed spaces in a special night seeing models and multi-media displays from some of Portland’s loved fashion community: Kate Towers, Liza Rietz, Holly Stalder, Sara Bergman, Nahanni Arntzen, Delphine Bedient, Tiro Tiro, Revere Metal and Marty Jean.

Textiles in the Marketplace

6:o0 p.m. Thu, Apr 11, Hoxton, $20

Textile designers and artists come together for one night in a pop up market and pop up talk with panel includes an impressive line up including Francesca Capone, Fine Artist and Materials Design Manager at Nike, Jared Flood, Owner and Pattern Designer for Brooklyn Tweed, Carley Kahn, Textile Surface Designer, Skye McNeill, Textile and Fashion Designer for Orozco, and Kristie Strasen, Color Expert and Textiles Designer with over 30 years of experience.
