The Hollywood Theatre is launching a new film series—and this one is portable. Back in May, the venerable movie palace purchased a massive inflatable screen from Open Air Cinema, promising a brand-new "series of outdoor screenings at Oregon state parks (all within an hour's drive of Portland)."

Molalla River State Park: plop that screen right down here!

Now—this very evening—all that the hot air comes together at Molalla River State Park. And with a new twist! Each summer screening (four are planned in this series) will be pegged to the very park that's hosting.
For 567-acre Molalla, with its sizeable off-leash dog area, that means the film is Christopher Guest’s Best In Show. The screening starts at sunset and it's all free for lucky ticket-holders (they went like hotcakes)—including eats from sponsor Chipotle and pre-screening activities like a well-behaved pup fashion show, prize wheel, and a competitive rubber poo toss.

It looks so Photoshopped—but it's real! This giant screen makes any lawn a blockbuster.

Best in Show, as we noted, is sold out. But if you like the concept, stay vigilant—series organizers tell us that they'll host three additional screenings this summer and early autumn. The next confirmed screening, on Aug 6, is a to-be-announced mountain bike-related movie at cycle-centric L.L. "Stub" Stewart State Park near Banks.
As of press time, the next shows in the Hollywood Theatre's state parks series were still TBA—check the theatre website or sign up for email updates.

L.L. "Stub" Stewart State Park: so serene. Perfect for a high-octane action movie?
