Nong’s Khao Man Gai
Yesterday I waited fifteen minutes for my weekly fix of Nong’s Khao Man Gai, which is why I’m somewhat hesitant to talk about such a good thing. Nong’s is a one-dish wonder, a food cart that serves only a single entree, its namesake boiled chicken with seasoned rice in a spicy sauce of ginger, sugar, galanga, and garlic. It’s Thai street food at its best, and the owner is a former Pok Pok cook. Everyday the queue of patrons comprises a who’s who of Portland chefs, food writers, and restaurateurs. Need I say more?
Khao Man Gai with a side of broth will set you back six bucks. You can get extra sauce or chicken livers for a buck. Nong’s is located near the corner of SW 10th and Alder. You will thank me.
